On the territory of the Gorno-Matchinsky district of the Sughd region of Tajikistan, as a result of an earthquake last week, 318 houses were damaged, of which four were completely destroyed, 53 houses were partially damaged, the head of the press center of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense told Asia-Plus under the government of Tajikistan Umed Yusufi.
Of the total number of damaged buildings, the most in the village of Paldorak – 165 objects, it was here that four houses were completely destroyed, another 37 were partially damaged and 124 buildings were lightly damaged.
According to the findings of the Commission for Emergency Situations, the damaged residential buildings and ancillary structures were built without complying with building rules and regulations, the CoES reports.
“All the damaged buildings are located on semi-plains and hills and had no foundation. Their walls and timber were worn out and their service life had expired,” Umeda Yusufi said.
According to her, as a result of the emergency, three people were injured, 18 cattle and 27 small cattle died.
Earlier, victims of the earthquake in the Gorno-Matchinsky district received assistance from residents of the Matcha district of Sogd.
On March 23, 2023, two earthquakes were registered in the country. The first happened at 1:07 local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was registered 6-7 km from the village of Paldorak, Langar rural jamoat, Gorno-Mastchinsky district, Sughd region.
The strength of the tremors in the epicenter was 5-6 points, in the Rasht district 4-5 points, in the city of Dushanbe 3-4 points.
The second earthquake was recorded at a depth of 40 kilometers at 07:53 local time, this time the force of the shocks was 4.8 points. In the city of Dushanbe, the strength of the tremors was 1-2 points, in the Rasht region 2 points.
On the same day, a republican commission was created under the leadership of the country’s Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda.
Meanwhile, in the Rasht region, where the earthquake also left its consequences, the commission examined and evaluated 68 residential buildings, of which only 32 were found to have light damage. In Nurabad, as a result of the earthquake on March 23, 17 farms were damaged. There were also other buildings and houses where the plaster came off the walls and small cracks formed.
As Umeda Yusufi noted, the government provided food assistance to all the residents of the country affected by the disaster in the form of flour, meat, butter, rice, pasta, vegetables, as well as building materials to restore damaged facilities.
Meanwhile, yesterday, March 26, at 18:14 local time, an earthquake struck again. This time the epicenter was 291 km southeast of Dushanbe, and 129 km from Khorog in Afghanistan. At the epicenter, the strength of the shocks was 4 points, in Dushanbe – 2 points.
