Kyrgyzstan will send seven experienced male boxers to the Asian Games which starts in Hangzhou, China on September 23. The team includes medallist from the World Boxing Championships and the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Mr. Daniyar Tologon Uulu, Mr. Ulan Sagynbayev and Mr. Akyikat Abayev selected the boxers to the first Qualifier and the management is expecting to earn spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Kyrgyz national team competed in several preparation events this year including the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships, the Bocskai Memorial Tournament, the Belgrade Winner Tournament and the Shopokov Memorial Tournament.
Nurzhigit Dyushebayev replaced Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Champion Azat Usenaliev at the flyweight (51kg) in the national team nearly two years ago and he was quarter-finalist in the recent Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent.
Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu joined the international events in 2014 and he earned Kyrgyzstan’s first ever, historic medal in a Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent this May. He moved down to the featherweight (57kg) successfully and the 27-year-old boxer has a strong potential to earn a medal in Hangzhou.
Bishkek’s National Champion, Askat Kultayev replaced another 21-year-old talent, the 2021 Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Zhantoro Tashiyev at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
Nuradin Rustambek Uulu earned a gold medal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and he was immediately invited to the elite national team. He represented Kyrgyzstan at the light middleweight (71kg) in several major championships and the 22-year-old strong puncher achieved a bronze at the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu began boxing only at the age of 15 but after four years of experiences in our sport, he represented Kyrgyzstan at the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok. The 23-year-old powerful light heavyweight (80kg) boxer was quarter-finalist at the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships as well.
The three-time ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Erkin Adylbek Uulu was Kyrgyzstan’s last Olympian boxer, he qualified for the Rio 2016 edition and he attended as a flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony. The 190cm tall boxer moved up to the heavyweight (92kg) but the 32-year-old veteran has strong potential in the Asian Games following his gold medal at the Bocskai Memorial Tournament.
Kyrgyzstan had issues at the super heavyweight (+92kg) in the previous years and might be their new National Champion, the 22-year-old Oomatbek Elchoro Uulu will be able to represent the Central Asian boxing power at the highest level.
