25 people are being interrogated by the regional police in connection with the conflict after the end of the Osh war. The police said that they violated public order and provocation at the horse arena.
Opinions are expressed that the debate and the subsequent chaos in the place where the leaders of the government were watching showed the reformation of this game, and the mood of the angry people showed the dissatisfaction of the society as a whole.
25 people are being questioned
The Osh Regional Internal Affairs Department is interrogating 25 people in connection with the mass chaos at the “Toleyken” horse arena of Osh region after the end of the squash game. The regional police reported that the investigation is ongoing and has not yet clarified whether a criminal case has been initiated or not.
“Spectators protested against the referees, threw plastic bottles and violated public order. A rapid investigation team was formed on this incident, and investigations were started. Seven people were hospitalized in connection with the incident. One of them is a law enforcement officer,” said Nur-Peri Abdullayeva, press officer of the regional police .
In the chaos, the windows of the Ford Transit car of the Osh regional “Ambulance” service were broken. In the videos circulating on social networks, the angry crowd can be seen chasing the referee of the game and the car of the “Ambulance” service, hitting them with stones and plastic bottles.
On August 31, the independence day of the country, a fight broke out at the end of the blue-collar competition for the President’s Cup at the “Toleyken” horse arena in Osh. Then some people who were dissatisfied with the result of the game ran onto the field and chased the referee. “Dostuk” and “Intymak” teams went to the finals, and as a result, “Intymak” won the prize of the head of the country with a score of 2:1.
Kamchybek Tashiev, the chairman of the State Committee on National Security (SCNC) , made a statement at night and said that an investigation into the conflict had begun, and that the guilty would be punished:
“Dear Kyrgyz people, don’t get angry. We are bound to be together. What will we answer in front of our young children who shed blood for Kyrgyz land and Kyrgyz people? Shall we say that we fought each other playing horse games? Our Dastan from Talas, our Ulan from Osh gave his life yesterday protecting our nation and land. Provocateurs and violators will be held accountable within the law. We should be united as a handful of Kyrgyz, without raising regional issues.”
An initiative to reform the vision
In Kyrgyzstan, among the clubs, large-scale competitions in squash are usually held 3-4 times a year – on Nowruz, May 9, on the occasion of Independence Day. In every game, there are conflicts related to the referees and the rules of the game. However, on August 31, there was no commotion as it happened in Osh. The issue was previously resolved at the level of the Kokboru Federation.
The latest turmoil has raised the issue of reforming the game’s governing body, the federation that unites the players. Sports commentator Kuban Atabekov shared his opinion with “Azattyk”:
“It is impossible not to develop the rules of the blueberry game from scratch. There is also a problem in the “Kokboru” federation. If you look at the previous presidents of the Federation, they made a political career and then ignored the blues. Blueberries are not treated with such indifference. Since Kokbori is the peak of Kyrgyz national games, it should be treated well. That’s why it is necessary to give the ball into private hands, to increase the number of games, to train the referees, and to expel those who violate the rules. If they don’t change this way, I don’t see a future for blueberry. The game on August 31 showed that it is dangerous to make the game the main game in festive events. As a sport, it should be held on the same day and time. If we want to spread it as a sport, the youth players will earn everything from this game, the clubs will develop, It would be better if he went to Kazakhstan and beat the kid. Kokboru is a great game to watch with your family. If you sit and discuss the names of horses. Then a generation will be brought up who see their future with culture. Otherwise, most of the blue-eyed people may be disappointed.”
In Kyrgyzstan, there are many cases where politicians who are interested in running the Kokboru Federation and the regional teams of Kokboru are running. It is said that they finance the teams.
Currently, the “Kokboru” federation of Talas is headed by the deputy of Jogorku Kenesh, Dastanbek Jumabekov . Recently, the chief prosecutor Kurmankul Zulushev was elected as the president of the International Blueberry Federation.
Talas Begaliev, head of the Kyrgyz Kokboru Federation, commented on the proposals for changes to the game:
“The blueberry game is being reformed. The work did not stop. Recently, the commission made a number of changes to the rules of the game. But blueberry also needs changes. We need to simplify the rule and look at the horse and the floats in addition. In some cases, players do not listen to the referee and upset the crowd. They should be punished. The last incident was the work of the people and the fans. Because the kids played there and shook hands nicely. Enraged people rushed to the playground and started throwing stones and plastic bottles. The players are not at fault.”
“This is a call to the president”
Officials led by President Sadyr Japarov , the Chairman of the Supreme Court, and the Chief Prosecutor watched the match between “Dostuk” and “Intymak” teams . The president did not sit until the end of the game. The chaos started after the game.
There are different opinions about the mood of the angry crowd that rushed to the field of play. Civil activist Mavlyan Askarbekov said:
“The president and the general prosecutor say that there are very big issues in the society where law enforcement officers were beaten and rioted. Education and culture have been ignored for 30 years. It showed that anyone can come and use the energy of the society in the noise after the Kokboru game.
The conflict that arose from the Kokboru game raised the issue of education and social enlightenment in Kyrgyzstan. A number of politicians and social network users are calling the authorities to pay attention to this issue. Jogorku Kenesh deputy Zhanar Akaev wrote the following on his Facebook page:
“The scene in the Oshto gourd game is a clear indicator of the attitude towards education and culture since independence. Why do thieves, flatterers, and merchants win elections instead of educated and competent people? Because there are many people who rush to this stadium and think like that. Until now, the court, the prosecutor, and the judge – everything has been sold, and solving problems by force and pressure has become the norm. If we don’t pay close attention to the field of education, as we pay attention to these games, as we support football and wrestling, then it may be too late…”.
August 31 – the main celebrations dedicated to the Independence Day were held in Osh this year. According to official information, more than 40,000 people came to the “Toleyken” horse arena in Osh to watch the national games.
To maintain security, more than a thousand officers from the Osh regional internal affairs department, as well as law enforcement officers from Jalal-Abad and Osh city police were involved.
