The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy decided to stop the activities of TikTok in Kyrgyzstan. The country begins the process of blocking the social network, Zakon.kz reports.
The initiative caused a mixed reaction in society. The Ministry of Digital Development asked providers to “immediately” take measures to block the social network in the Kyrgyz Republic, reports Kaktus.media .
The head of the licensing department of the Ministry of Culture, Bektur Ibragimov, said that at the moment the Ministry of Digital Development should already begin to block TikTok.
“Now this issue falls within the competence of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, which should subsequently deal with its implementation. We did not send the decision to block the communication operators. Our department sends, according to our regulations, to the Ministry of Digital Development. And they, in turn, send the decision to the operators so that they blocked. They have their own mechanisms for interaction with operators. As I understand it, there is some kind of sabotage on the part of the operators. Or, I don’t know, they do not have the technical capabilities of blocking. But I do not have complete information regarding this issue.”

Ibragimov added that earlier in Bishkek, representatives of relevant departments met with the regional director of TikTok, who flew to Bishkek especially for this purpose.
“We told them that we have a different mentality. That our content is absolutely not regulated by TikTok. Filtering and registration are not properly provided. We voiced these concerns to them and asked them to implement some mechanisms. They heard us and they said they needed to agree on something.”

According to him, representatives of Kyrgyzstan have sent their proposals to TikTok, and negotiations are underway.
The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy decided to cease activities in the distribution of the TikTok service in the Kyrgyz Republic due to the alleged increase in “concerns from a number of non-governmental organizations regarding the harmful effects of the TikTok social network, which negatively affects the mental development and health of children.” .
At the same time, none of those who applied showed statistics on how social networks affect children.
