As of today, around 600,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan are engaged in labor migration, said First Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration Nurdoolot Bazarbaev at the Mekendeshter-2023 forum.
The number of migrants abroad has decreased, as many have been returning home and finding employment locally, Bazarbaev said.
Additionally, he mentioned that this year, 15,000 work permits were allocated for foreign citizens in Kyrgyzstan, and 60-70% of them have already been distributed.
Regarding the impact of the cancellation of visa-run on migrants in Kyrgyzstan, Bazarbaev said that no significant changes have been observed. Vis-run refers to the practice of briefly leaving a country and returning to renew the allowed stay or obtain a new visa. Kyrgyzstan abolished visa-run practice from October 17 as it minimized migration control in the country.
