MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The potential of cooperation between Belarus and Kyrgyzstan is still hugely untapped, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus Ermek Ibraimov told the media during his meeting with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko in Minsk on 18 January, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are gearing up to celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations. In this regard, it is high time we took a look at some results. On the whole, we assess our relations with Belarus as friendly. Kyrgyzstan and Belarus are members of all the integration organizations in the post-Soviet space. There are few such states actually,” said Ermek Ibraimov.
According to him, bilateral relations are vibrant. “Despite the difficulties we had a few years ago (I mean the epidemiological situation), we manage to increase trade between our countries. Belarusian business is gradually entering Kyrgyzstan, and Kyrgyzstan goods are coming to Belarus. We see it as the most positive outcome,” said the ambassador.
“We are developing relations in the political sector, culture and humanitarian affairs,” Ermek Ibraimov added. “For example, Kyrgyz filmmakers regularly participate in the annual Listapad international film festival. We hold Days of Kyrgyz Cinema in Belarus almost every year. Similar work is done by Belarusian specialists in Kyrgyzstan. These are good results to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.”
Belarus and Kyrgyzstan need to deepen cooperation in all the areas, the ambassador emphasized. “The potential between our countries is still hugely untapped, so there is still a lot of work to do,” he stated. “As for the trade and economic cooperation, it is constant work. Now Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are working on increasing trade. Most importantly, the countries have managed to achieve a steady growth in mutual trade. Belarus trades mainly in machinery and technical products. For example, the BELARUS tractor is well known to our farmers. Moreover, some time ago, a line to assemble these tractors was set up in Kyrgyzstan. The Made in Belarus brand is well known in Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan sells small batches of agricultural products to Belarus. It is great that Kyrgyzstan textiles are now available in Belarusian stores. We are slowly looking for suitable areas for development, including in trade.”
The parties are set to discuss the state and prospects of the Belarus-Kyrgyzstan inter-parliamentary cooperation including the scheduled official visit of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus in 2023 and other urgent issues of cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian sectors.
