Two cases of measles were registered in St. Petersburg among migrants from Tajikistan, they were not vaccinated against this infection .

She stressed that  clean-up immunization will begin in the northern capital of the Russian Federation on April 1.

The representative of Rospotrebnadzor drew attention to the fact that when a patient with measles seeks medical help, door-to-door rounds are carried out in the house where he lives, during which information is collected about vaccinations made by his neighbors.

“If such data are not available, vaccination is organized,” said the head of the epidemiological surveillance department.

Petersburg media call a 17-year-old girl who returned from Tajikistan  “patient zero”.  

According to the publication Delovoy Peterburg, the girl flew to the northern capital from Dushanbe on January 19, but only after 7 days she felt unwell.

On January 26, ambulance staff hospitalized her in a children’s infectious diseases hospital. 

Measles is an acute infectious viral disease that is very quickly transmitted by airborne droplets. Patients have high body temperature (up to 40.5°C), inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract, conjunctivitis, and a characteristic maculopapular rash on the skin.

In Tajikistan, vaccination against measles is included in the National Immunization Schedule: children are vaccinated at the age of 12 months with a revaccination at six years of age. 

In early February, the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, assured journalists at a press conference that no cases of measles had been registered in the country this year. He said then that last year there were many cases of the disease: it was brought from Russia and Uzbekistan.
