Bellevue College has partnered with the Bilimkana Foundation, a network of K-12 schools primarily based in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia, to enable Bilimkana students to fulfill their English composition requirements while they’re still in high school.
This marks the first international articulation agreement for Bellevue College, a release from the school said.
As Bilimkana Foundation opens its second school in Kazakhstan and its first in Uzbekistan this September, Bellevue College will be one of the first U.S. higher education institutions with a significant presence in the area.
Under the partnership, the Bilimkana schools will have their students team up to create zines as part of their English composition course. The same approach is leveraged in English 101 on the Bellevue Campus campus. Bilimkana students who complete their course with an A or B grade will be able to transition directly into 200-level English courses at Bellevue College, the release noted.
Bellevue College has experienced a steady increase in student enrollment from Kyrgyzstan. Forty-four students enrolled in the 2022-23 academic year — up from the previous year’s 25. Kyrgyzstan is now the seventh largest source of international students for the college. Through the new partnership, this figure is anticipated to rise.
