The first batch of American Abrams tanks will arrive in Ukraine in mid-September, Politico reports, citing two sources, including from the US Department of Defense.

According to the publication’s interlocutors, who asked to remain anonymous, the first batch will include 10 tanks. They are in Germany and are undergoing maintenance and repairs; once they are completed, the armored vehicles will be sent to Ukraine.

In total, the United States plans to transfer 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. It is expected that the allies will send all the promised armored vehicles to Ukraine by the end of autumn 2023.

The United States first announced plans to transfer Abrams tanks to Ukraine in January. In May, training of the Ukrainian military to control tanks began in Germany. In early August, it was announced that the US authorities had finally officially approved the supply of these armored vehicles to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian military is already using other modern tanks in battle – the Leopard, a German design and production.
