Azamat Kalysbekov, an employee of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told AKIPress in an interview about the new regulations for foreigners’ stay in Kyrgyzstan.
“One of the new provisions is the abolition of the Visa-run. This concept refers to resetting one’s stay through exits and entries. This practice was used in neighboring countries, and it’s a global practice in general, but considering changes in migration policy, all countries worldwide aim to eliminate it because Visa-run minimizes migration control.
Unfortunately, many foreign citizens fall off the radar of government authorities. They cross the border, essentially blending into the country, and state authorities can’t track them, including in Kyrgyzstan.
What does this mean for Kyrgyzstan? As of October 21, a new regulation on the rules of stay has come into effect, which introduces changes to the principles of the visa regime, following the 60/120 principle for some countries and the 90/180 principle for others.
What does this mean? Citizens of certain foreign countries, with whom a partially visa-free regime for up to 60 days applies, can stay in Kyrgyzstan. They can accumulate these 60 days or obtain them in a single visit by entering and exiting. Without specifying the details of their trips, they can stay for 60 days. After 60 days, Kyrgyzstan requests them to obtain a visa and be outside the country for another 60 days. Apart from a visa, there are also other documents, such as a residence permit or temporary residence permit, and so on,” he explained.
First of all, cancelling visa-run enhances control over foreign visitors’s stay in Kyrgyzstan and it allows to see who has arrived and for what purpose, he added.
