Uzbekistan is hosting the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization. The event is attended by representatives of 133 countries, including a delegation from Kyrgyzstan. The Tourism Development Support Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally welcomed the Kyrgyz delegation at Kyrgyzstan’s national stand. The conversation was focused on tourism development and promotion of the new tourist center Samarkand-city. The President of Uzbekistan noted that the construction of Samarkand-city on the place of swamps was an ambitious project and he personally contributed to its development, even created his own sketches.
In his opening speech, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed interest in the development of sustainable tourism and proposed several initiatives to enhance cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The President noted that one of the pressing problems in global tourism was ensuring people’s safety. He stressed that conflicts and instability in various regions of the world have a serious impact on the development of tourism.
Kyrgyzstan presented projects of year-round Baytik Mountain Resort, international sports center Issyk-Kul Tosor and tourism cluster of Batken region — Batken Resort. The Tourism Development Support Fund signed several Memorandums of Cooperation with tourist destinations in Uzbekistan.
