The Jalal-Abad City Court found Chynygul Sherkulova, a member of the Butun Kyrgyzstan party, guilty of public calls for a violent seizure of power. The press secretary of the regional court, Mirlan Toromamatov, told Azattyk about this on January 18.

According to his information, the court handed down a sentence of imprisonment for three years against Sherkulova on December 14, 2023. However, the execution of the sentence was delayed, since she is raising her 14-year-old daughter alone; Sherkulova has three children in total.

Chynygul Sherkulova was detained by State Committee for National Security officers in October 2023. The reason for her arrest, according to investigators, was the dissemination of false information on social networks. However, at that time the State Committee did not provide details of her detention.

Her lawyer, Toktosun Zhorobekov, reported that Sherkulova’s arrest was due to the fact that she “spread words about Altyn-Mazar.” The lawyer also noted that there was “nothing” in the woman’s accusation, but despite this she was arrested.
