China on Wednesday urged the U.S., the UK and Australia to earnestly fulfill their non-proliferation obligations and refrain from undermining the authority and efficacy of the safeguards system of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Over a thousand people rallied in Port Kembla in Australia’s state of New South Wales on Saturday to protest plans to establish a local base for nuclear submarines at the heart of the AUKUS agreement. Eight people died in a traffic accident in southern Kyrgyzstan’s Batken Oblast, the regional department for road safety reported Wednesday. A van collided with a sedan late Tuesday on the Osh-Razzakov highway in the Kadamjay region of Batken Oblast. The fatal accident claimed eight lives and left one injured. The road safety department said the injured was in serious condition and taken to a hospital.
The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC), the highest governing body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), is to kick off here on Friday, an official said on Tuesday. Kyrgyzstan has temporarily restricted withdrawing foreign currency in cash from the country until the Cabinet of Ministers “makes a relevant decision,” the cabinet said Monday in a press release. The decision, signed by Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov, would ensure financial and economic security, stabilize the domestic currency market and protect national interests, the statement read. Non-residents and foreign citizens are prohibited from withdrawing more than 5,000 U.S. dollars in cash. The limit is 10,000 dollars in cash for residents and citizens of Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan flew another 80 rescuers to Türkiye to aid earthquake victims, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on Monday. Humanitarian aid comprised of 78 yurts was on the same flight to Gaziantep with three doctors and workers who will install the yurts, the ministry added. “Rescuers, doctors and humanitarian aid are being sent to the earthquake’s epicenter – the city of Kahramanmaras. The third rescue team will depart to the affected country on an additional plane in the coming days,” the ministry said. On Feb. 7, Kyrgyzstan sent 67 rescuers and two dog handlers to Türkiye.

In connection with the avalanches on the Bishkek-Naryn-Torugart highway and due to the continuing danger of avalanches, the governor of Naryn Oblast has declared a state of emergency, it said.
